This book, folks, is about a harrowing account of resilience and despair. The novel captures the haunting reality of a refugee life through the voice of a Somali woman, who has known no home beyond the confines of a refugee camp. Her words cut deep, painting an image of suffocating heat, endless agony, and the unbearable uncertainty of an unknown future.

Fleeing war-torn Somalia at the tender age of eight, she spent decades in a state of limbo, marrying, raising children, and struggling out a living as a seamstress within the desolate Dadaab refugee camp. Through her story, we feel the weight of stolen childhoods, lost opportunities, and persistent hope that flickers like a candle but never fades away!

Her struggle is not just one of survival but longing- for education, for stability, for a future beyond barbed-wire fences of displacement. The novel is a powerful indictment of a world that often turns a blind eye to the the sufferings of its refugees around the world, leaving them trapped in an endless existence of non-sensical wars beyond their comprehension! Her final plea: a prayer for a better future for her children!

I can’t help but wonder, in the figment of my imagination, reflecting on the fragility of human existence and the resilience of the human spirit!
