Somaliland has long been praised as a rare example of stability and democratic governance in the Horn of Africa. Yet, with the upcoming parliamentary election, the country faces a critical test: will it avoid previous delayed elections and continue its tradition of peaceful transitions of power?

Political parties, civil society, and international observers all agree that credibility at the ballot box is vital not only for domestic legitimacy but also for Somaliland’s international recognition campaign. The international community has closely watched previous elections, noting both achievements and challenges.

Today, citizens and leaders alike must ensure that disagreements are resolved through dialogue, not confrontation. A credible election will not only strengthen Democracy at home but also reinforce Somaliland’s argument that it deserves recognition as a responsible member of the international community.
